Suspect in Weekend Murder Turns Himself In

A man is behind bars for murder after turning himself in on Thursday.

Omaha Police say 21 year old Lamar Mitchell turned himself in at OPD Central Headquarters Thursday morning. He was booked at Douglas County Corrections for 2nd-Degree Murder and Use of a Weapon to Commit a Felony in connection to a weekend shooting death.

Just before 8:00 Saturday night, officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation at 28th and Spencer Street. While officers were en route, the call was upgraded to a shooting. Upon arrival at the scene officers located 38 year old Michael Wilson with a gunshot wound. Medics transported Wilson to Nebraska Medicine where he died.

Police say homicide detectives had an arrest warrant issued for Mitchell two days before he turned himself in. The investigation is still ongoing and investigators urge anyone with additional information to contact the OPD Homicide Unit at (402) 444-5656 or Crime Stoppers at (42) 444-STOP or online at www.omahacrimestoppers.org or on the P3 Tips mobile app.
