There is a mixed bag of weather on the way for Nebraska and Iowa. Heavy rain, severe storms and even some snow are expected throughout the area from Thursday through Friday morning.
First Alert Weather says two rounds of storms are expected on Thursday. The first round will move through between 6am and 10am Thursday morning. Frequent lightning and heavy rain is possible. Rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible with this round of storms.
A second round of storms is expected to develop during the evening as a strong cold front approaches the area. Temperatures are forecasted to warm to near 70 degrees Thursday afternoon. First Alert Weather says storms will fire up from 4-8 pm and there will be a brief window where severe storms are possible.
Damaging winds are the main risk, but large hail is possible and an tornado cannot be ruled out. The highest risk covers areas near and east of the Missouri River.
As the cold air comes rushing in, rain will change over to snow Thursday evening. Snow is likely for area north of I-80, but accumulations should be on the lower side. 1 to 3 inches is possible for around Columbus, Norfolk, West Point, and Tekahmah.
Snow will likely be on the wet and heavy side, but gusty winds up to 45 mph could still lead to some blowing snow. For the metro, snow amounts should be less than a half-inch, if anything at all.
