Nebraska Head Coach Fred Hoiberg left the game in the final minutes Wednesday night's Big Ten Tournament game against Indiana after becoming visibly sick on the bench
He was taken to a local hospital emergency room and was diagnosed with influenza (common cold). Nebraska assistant coach Doc Sadler finished the game on the bench, while Hoiberg left for the locker room.
Hoiberg did not attend the post game news conference. Indiana beat the Huskers 89-64 in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament on Wednesday night, ending Nebraska's season.
The Huskers ended up losing 17 straight games and finished the season with a record of 7-25.
Hoiberg issued this statement on Twitter Thursday morning: "Please let it be known that I would never do anything that would put my team, family or anyone else in harm's way. I was feeling under the weather on Wednesday and we felt the right thing to do was to get checked out by a tournament doctor prior to our game in the Big Ten Tournament against Indiana. Once that medical official cleared me, I made a decision to coach my team. I would like to thank event staff for their car and professionalism. Also, thank you to everyone who has reached out for your support. This is a scary time for all of us. Let's offer our thoughts and prayers directly to those affected with the Coronavirus."
