Child abuse charges against an Omaha firefighter have been dropped according to the Sarpy County officials.
34 year old Stephen Luethge was accused of abusing his child in 2019. At the time prosecutors said Luethge allowed a child to be placed in a situation that endangered their life.
Luethge’s attorney, Joseph Naatz, tells 6 News he has always maintained the fractured ribs and arm were due to a medical condition. He says the girl was born with a rare tumor and affected her growth prior to birth and that left her very fragile.
Naatz said the child has since been returned home. He issued a statement on behalf of the family on Thursday.
- On behalf of Stephen Luethge and the Luethge family, they would like to thank those who have provided prayers and concern for them during this difficult time. The love and support from all their family and friends has been overwhelming. The Luethge's would also like to thank those strangers who have heard their story and reached out in prayer and support. They truly appreciate the outpouring of love and would like to extend the same love to their supporters. Stephen has maintained his innocence throughout this process and believes this outcome reflects this truth. Stephen looks forward to returning in the very near future to serving the citizens of Omaha in his capacity as an Omaha firefighter."
