Omaha Crime Stoppers And Bankers' Reward Fund Pays Off With An Arrest

"Omaha Crime Stoppers" has paid out another $20,000 reward for an anonymous tip that has led to the arrest of a suspected bank robber.

The reward was funded by the "Nebraska Bankers Association" bank robbery reward fund, established by the association and its member banks as a way to help solve cases of bank robbery.

Last November, the "U.S. Bank" near 132nd and West Maple Road in Omaha was robbed by a person who indicated she had a gun.

Two weeks later, a similar incident occurred at the "Premier Bank" at 43rd and Dodge in Omaha. The suspect was not immediately identified and remained at large.

After releasing images of the suspect through media partners and social media, an anonymous tip identified Trennesha Newson as the name of the person in the images from the two incidents.

Omaha Police were able to locate and arrest the suspect, who has since been charged with one count of robbery and one count of attempted robbery of a bank – both felonies.

Since 2016 when the reward fund was announced, police say there has been a 75 percent reduction in bank robberies.
