14 Year Old Jailed In Shooting Death Of Teenage Friend

Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine wants to know how a 14 year old got a 9 mm gun that was used in the shooting death of his 15 year old friend.

Kleine says Sylas Lieb was one of two brothers hanging out with the 14 year old Wednesday night in a house near 35th and Hamilton. He says they had spent the day smoking pot.

According to details revealed in court Thursday, the 14-year-old eighth-grader reportedly told police he found the gun at a laundromat about a week earlier and that he was in his room cleaning the gun when it accidentally went off, killing his friend.

"It's a tremendously disturbing situation when you have a 14, 15 and an 18-year-old who apparently were smoking weed most of the day and somehow the 14-year-old has a 9mm firearm... and at some point in time has it pointed at the 15-year-old, and the gun goes off and the 15-year-old is dead," Kleine says.

The 14-year-old is charged with manslaughter. He is being held at the Youth Detention Center until his next court appearance.
