Two Children Hit By Pickup Crossing Omaha Street

Two elementary school students were injured after being struck by a pickup truck Tuesday afternoon.

It happened at 33rd and Ames near Skinner Magnet School. Police say students had just been let out of school and were crossing Ames.

One boy was taken to a hospital to be checked out. The other boy has a more serious leg injury. Witness Matt Grecco stayed with the boys until paramedics got there and says one of them had an open leg fracture.

"That's one thing you don't want to see, especially on an eight year old boy. That literally breaks my heart. If they don't pay attention or parents don't listen to this message things like this will happen," Grecco told 6 News.

Police say the students did not use the overpass that was directly above them. Police interviewed the driver who they say was doing the speed limit.
