Another Slight Uptick In Douglas County Flu Cases

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nebraska - Influenza activity in Douglas County remains high. The number of reported cases slightly increased last week with 299 new confirmed cases. The Health Department says it is important to remember that lab testing may decrease as clinical diagnosis increase because testing is not always needed when flu activity is high.

The percentage of outpatient visits, emergency room visits and hospital admissions remain elevated. Influenza B/Victoria is now the predominant virus in Douglas County.

There have been 4,591 laboratory confirmed cases of influenza reported since September 29, 2019. There have been nine flu related deaths in the county, seven adults and two pediatric deaths.

The Douglas County Health Department also tested 515 people for respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV in the last week. Eighty-six tested positive.
