Lincoln Burglary Suspect Breaks Leg While Carrying Stolen TV

LINCOLN, Nebraska - A burglary suspect is in a hospital with a broken leg while another sits behind bars.

Lincoln Police were called to the Waterbrook Apartments on North Hill Road around 1 p.m. Tuesday for a burglary. The 18 year old victim told police she saw people she knew leaving her apartment with a number of her belongings.

The woman told police that two individuals had taken TV's, a phone, a wallet containing cash, shoes, a DVD player, a hat and a debit card.

The woman told police she saw the man with her TV was lying on the ground yelling that he had broken his leg. The also saw a woman wearing a hat that had been taken from the apartment.

Both suspects got into a truck and took off before police arrived.

Officers then got a call from a hospital saying that a man arrived with a broken leg. Police found both suspects there. They talked to 35 year old Sherry Gomez and police say they found cash on her that the victim had reported stolen. The man said that he slipped on ice while leaving an apartment and broke his leg.

Officers found all the stolen property in their vehicle. The loss from the burglary was around $2.200.

Gomez was booked for burglary. The man will remain in the hospital and be cited later.
