Deadly Accident On I-80 Near Hershey

LINCOLN, Nebraska - One person is dead after an accident on I-80 near Hershey.

The Nebraska State Patrol reports that around 11:30 Friday, a Ford Ranger pickup lost control on eastbound I-80. The pickup crossed the median and was hit by a westbound semi.

57 year old Michael Krough of Colorado Springs died at the scene. The driver of the semi was not hurt. Weather conditions were a factor in the accident.

The State Patrol reports that another accident happened at 10:15 on I-80 Friday near Kearney. A semi pulling double trailers lost control in icy conditions and overturned, blocking the eastbound lanes. There were two people in the semi and neither was hurt.

State Troopers responded to 55 accidents Friday. Troopers also helped with 121 motorist assists from Friday into Saturday morning. The also helped a number of other agencies with 30 additional accidents.

NSP continues to urge caution as temperatures are expected to stay near or below freezing for the next several days around much of the state. With the potential for refreezing on roadways, it is critical that motorists practice safe winter driving and never drive faster than conditions allow.
