NHS Reports Tilapia Bandaged Cat Is Improving

OMAHA, Nebraska - King the cat is beating the odds and is recovering after being burned in a house fire last month.

At the end of December, veterinarians at the Nebraska Humane Society used disinfected Tilapia skin as an organic bandage on a cat's abdomen. They changed the skins last week and veterinarians removed them this week and found some new tissue.

King underwent another surgery this past Wednesday and continues to show signs of improvement.

NHS spokesperson Pam Wiese says, "We are very pleased with his progress. He still has a long road of healing ahead of him but he is on the mend. His wounds are getting smaller and that is good news as well."

With the good news, King is still not out of the woods quite yet. Wiese says they are trying their best to prevent an infection. They are limiting visits but his family did get to see him on Friday.
