Metro Area Preparing For Snow, Strong Winds On Friday

After a stretch of mild January days, winter weather will be returning Friday afternoon and could impact your drive home. A winter weather advisory is in effect for the metro area.

First Alert Chief Meteorologist Rusty Lord says 1-3 inches of snow is likely in the metro area, with it falling between noon and 8 p.m.

Heavier amounts of 3 to 6 inches and some light icing are likely south of the metro. On top of the snow, north winds will gust to 35 mph creating difficult driving conditions late this afternoon and evening as you head home from work.

Rusty says temperatures are likely to be in the 20's most of the day but will fall off pretty quickly this evening thanks to the north wind. Wind chills will likely dip below zero overnight as air temps fall into the lower teens by the end of the day.

City street crews have already pre-treated the streets with brine to help melt the snow and ice.

There is another chance of light snow on Sunday.
