LINCOLN, Nebraska - Lincoln Police used a less than lethal shotgun with bean bags and a taser to take a person into custody who was holding a machete.
Police were called to South Street on Wednesday after a person was threatening suicide and had taken alcohol and prescription medication. Police say that individual walked out of a house wearing goggles, a mask and holding a machete.
The person refused to follow orders to stop and drop the knife so police first used bean bags but the individual kept on coming. Officers then used a taser and the person dropped to their knees. Police tried to grab the machete but it was duct taped to the person's hand.
That person was then taken to a hospital for treatment. Lincoln Police say this is another example of officers using the appropriate levels of force to successfully connect this individual with mental health resources.
