DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nebraska - The Douglas County Health Department reports high levels of influenza activity continues.
The number of lab confirmed cases last week decreased to 459. However, that could reflect more clinical diagnosis without a need for a test. Eight outbreaks were reported in long-term care facilities and one outbreak in a correctional center. The Department reports the current percentage of outpatient and emergency room visits, hospital admissions and children missing school due to illness continues to remain high. Over ten-percent of all emergency department visits were due to flu-like illnesses last week.
A total of 3,758 lab-confirmed cases of influenza has been reported in Douglas County so far this season. There have been two flu-related deaths as well.
Nebraska is one of 34 states experiencing high levels of influenza-like illness.
