OMAHA, Nebraska - Omaha Police released more details on the shooting of an officer at the Evans Tower at 24th and Evans.
Three officers responded to a domestic disturbance involving a man who has been identified as 57 year old Terry Hudson who was armed with a gun. Officers arrived at the building, knocked on a closed door and identified themselves as officers. They could hear a female inside scream and repeatedly say, "No, Terry".
When no one answered, they knocked again and identified themselves as "Omaha Police Officers". The female voice again could be hears saying, "No, Terry" so that is when the officers kicked open the door. Gunfire could be heard immediately afterwards.
Moments later, Hudson walked out of the apartment with a gun in a raised hand. Both officers fired shots at Hudson. The officers then reported that shots were fired and they requested a rescue squad. Hudson had been hit and later died. A deceased female, identified as 57 year old Dana Wells was found inside the apartment with a gunshot wound.
During the disturbance, one officer was shot in the leg and was taken to a hospital where he was treated and released. That officer has not been identified.
Detectives interviewed two witnesses who were the ones who called 911. Both said they saw Hudson with a gun shortly before they placed that emergency call. One witness said Hudson and Wells were having a verbal and physical argument when Hudson pulled a gun from underneath a piece of furniture.
Another witness heard and saw Hudson and Wells arguing in the hallway. That witness said Hudson placed Wells in a chokehold. The witness tried to calm Hudson down when he pointed the gun at the witness and then at Wells. That witness also heard Hudson yell "kill me" when officers were knocking on the door. The officers were wearing body cameras that were activated and recorded the disturbance. Footage shows Hudson yelling "kill me" as he walked out of the apartment. That footage also shows Hudson holding a gun.
The Douglas County Attorney has been briefed. In accordance with an agreement with the Omaha Police Department and the Nebraska State Patrol, Nebraska State Patrol Investigators are assisting the Omaha Police Officer-Involved Investigation Team along with the Omaha Police Homicide Unit.
The officers have been placed on Administrative Leave as the investigation continues. The investigation is in the early stages and ongoing. More details will be released at a later time.
