Douglas County Reports Second Flu Death

OMAHA, Nebraska - A second person in Douglas County has died from influenza. The Health Department reports that person was over the age of 65. Both of the victims have been over 65 and both deaths occurred in the month of December.

Douglas County continues to experience extremely high levels of influenza activity, with 898 laboratory-confirmed cases reported last week. This exceeded the previous week’s record number of reported cases. Nebraska is one of 25 states experiencing high levels of activity. There have been seven outbreaks in long-term care facilitates and one outbreak in a correctional facility.

Douglas County Health Department has not received any reports of pediatric deaths due to influenza this season.
