OMAHA, Nebraska - Millard West High School social studies instructor, Tim Royers, was honored as one of 45 public educators receiving the prestigious California Casualty Award for Teaching Excellence for 2020. Nebraska State Education Association leadership, along with California Casualty’s Steph Whitmore, recognized Mr. Royers for the prestigious honor today.
Mr. Royers was nominated for the award by his peers in the Nebraska State Education Association, and will be honored at the NEA Foundation’s Salute to Excellence in Education Gala to be held in Washington, D.C. on February 7, 2020.
Mr. Royer, the 2016 Nebraska Teacher of the Year, believes that making lessons student-centric helps them take away the ability to think critically, to consider multiple perspectives, and to be able to assess causation over an extended period of time. “Passing my passion for learning on to the next generation is my greatest contribution to education,” he said.
The California Casualty Awards for Teaching Excellence highlight educators from around the country cited by their peers for their dedication to the profession, community engagement, professional development, attention to diversity and advocacy for fellow educators.
