OMAHA, Nebraska - Omaha City Councilman Vinny Palermo is sentenced to four years’ probation for failing to file federal tax returns. Palermo was also fined $35,000.
Prosecutors had asked for up to a year in prison but the judge stated, I fail to see the benefits to the public by sending him to prison."
Palermo was elected to the city's 4th District two years ago. He pleaded guilty in September to three counts of willful failure to file income tax returns for 2012, 2013 and 2014.
