The Nebraska State Patrol has identified two teenagers and a ten year old from Lincoln were killed in a four vehicle crash Sunday on I-80 near the Greenwood exit.
Investigators say around 11:10 a.m. an eastbound Chevrolet Trailblazer lost control on the slick roadway and clipped an eastbound Mini Cooper before going through the median and rolling into the westbound lanes. It was then struck by a westbound Honda Odyssey.
A westbound Ford F-150 was then involved in the crash. The patrol says three passengers in the Trailblazer were killed. 19 year old Domingo Pascual Velasquez and 15 year old Erica Rafael were thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. 10 year old Heidy Diaz of Lincoln was transported to an Omaha hospital where she later died.
A four-year-old passenger of the Trailblazer was also transported to the Nebraska Medical Center in critical condition and has since been transferred to Children’s Hospital, but remains in critical condition.
The driver of the Trailblazer, 29 year old Carlos Bernabe Escobar and front seat passenger, 28 year old Carmelina Pascual Bernabe of Lincoln were transported to Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha with non-life-threatening injuries.
Five occupants of the Honda Odyssey, all from Minnesota, were transported to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. Troopers believe that the driver and passengers of the Trailblazer were not wearing seat belts.
The investigation is continuing.
