SAUNDERS COUNTY, Nebraska - One person is dead after an accident on icy Highway 77 near Mead.
The Saunders County Sheriff's Office reports that a pickup lost control and slid into oncoming traffic about a mile north of Mead. That pickup hit an oncoming Jeep.
A passenger in the pickup died at the scene. The driver of the pickup was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Another passenger was treated at the scene.
The driver of the Jeep was taken to a hospital in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.
The accident remains under investigation. This is one of dozens of accidents in eastern Nebraska due to freezing rain.
