Man Accused Of Leading Officers On Two Chases Before Crashing Into A House

LINCOLN, Nebraska - A man in a stolen Jeep led Lincoln Police on a chase around 2 a.m. Thursday on Highway 34 and W. Fletcher. The jeep was driving with no headlights and ran a red light. Police tried to stop the Jeep but the driver kept going northbound in the southbound lanes. Police then called off the chase. Officers then learned the same Jeep had been in a pursuit with Seward County deputies.

At 3 a.m., Lincoln Police were called to investigate a vehicle that had hit a house in the 1100 block of Sumner. The vehicle matched the description of the Jeep that was involved in two earlier pursuits.

59 year old Alfred Witherspoon was arrested for operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest. Police say Witherspoon showed signs of impairment and officers started to DUI investigation but Witherspoon was uncooperative and lab results are pending.

Several hours later, Omaha Police received a report that the Jeep had been stolen.
