Nebraska Medicine's Walk-In Flu Clinics Now Open

OMAHA, Nebraska - The early start to the flu season prompted Nebraska Medicine to open two walk-in flu clinics early. As of December 7th, the Douglas County Health Department has documented 1,066 cases of the flu.

“Nebraska Medicine is once again serving our community by opening clinics for same day and walk-in service for people who are experiencing flu-like symptoms,” says Dr. Scott McPherson, medical director for Clarkson Family Medicine at the Old Market Health Center. “This will make it easier for patients to be seen quickly, often closer to where they live. The influenza clinics will free up personnel and resources in the emergency department to assist with other critical illnesses and injuries.”

The two locations are Clarkson Family Medicine at Old Market Health Center at 1319 Leavenworth Street and Eagle Run Health Center at 3685 N. 129th Street. Both clinics are open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Flu symptoms include a fever that comes on suddenly, along with things like chills, sore throat, cough, muscle aches and a runny nose. Symptoms can last four to five days. Children and the elderly can be most severely impacted. The flu is responsible for approximately 25,000 deaths in the United States each year.
