OMAHA, Nebraska -Volunteers attending Saturday's Wreaths Across America ceremony at the Omaha National Cemetery will be placing 1,756 wreaths on the graves of veterans to remember and honor their service and sacrifice.
The event starts at 11 a.m. with a Flag Line by the Patriot Guard Riders.Opening remarks will be given by Bill and Evonne Williams with Congressman Don Bacon and Colonel Gavin Marks, Commander of the 55th Wing at Offutt Air Force Base are guest speakers.
Organizer Mary Blodgett tells NewsRadio 1110 KFAB, "Those in attendance who have a family member laid to rest at Omaha National, they will be invited to pick up a wreath first and take it to their loved one's grave site.When they are done, then the rest of the attendees are invited to take a wreath to a gravesite.We always ask they read the tombstone, say the service member's name out loud and then remember their name and maybe go home and research that person."
There is handicapped parking available at the cemetery located at 142nd and Schram Road.All other attendees are asked to park at Werner Park and take one of the many shuttles that will start running at 9 a.m.
Last year, more than 3,000 people attended the Wreaths Across America ceremony.
