Gavins Point Dam Releases Will Be Higher Than Normal This Winter

OMAHA, Nebraska - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers started reducing Gavins Point releases to the winter release rate on November 30th.

The releases will be stepped down at the rate of 3,000 cubic feet per second per day until they reach 27,000 cubic feet per second. That rate should remain through the month of December.

In January, releases will be reduced to 25,000 cubic feet per second and remain at that rate for the rest of the winter.

Gavins Point Dam typically releases between 12,000 and 17,000 cubic feet per second during the winter months. Higher than average winter releases from the Missouri River Mainstem System projects continue emptying water from the 2019 runoff season that is still in storage.
