Bennington Man Killed In Crash On Highway 77 Thursday Night

SAUNDERS COUNTY, Nebraska - Saunders County authorities identified the man killed on Highway 77 north of Wahoo Thursday night as 65 year old Gene Lefler of Bennington.

Slick roads contributed to the crash.

6 News reports emergency crews found a semi and four vehicles involved in the crash. All of the vehicles were northbound. Saunders County authorities say Lefler had gotten out of his vehicle to check on another driver when a semi lost control on the icy road, jack-knifed and hit an overpass. Lefler was thrown from the overpass. He was rushed to a hospital and pronounced dead.

There were no other injuries reported.

At 9:30 Thursday night, the Lincoln Police Department issued an advisory asking drivers to use extreme caution if they must travel as road conditions had deteriorated, especially on hills and bridges. Several accidents were been reported.
