Old Market Holiday Kickoff Canceled But More Is Yet To Come

OMAHA, Nebraska - Due to the forecast weather and safety of the public, we will be canceling the Holidays in the Old Market Kick-Off tonight. Lights will still be on tonight, so come enjoy!

"This year, while the Gene Leahy Mall is under construction, the Old Market becomes the centerpiece of our Omaha tradition - the Holiday Lights Festival," said Omaha Mayor Jean Stothert. "Thank you to the Old Market Association and the Downtown Improvement District for spreading holiday cheer and excitement."

Holidays in the Old Market will include special events, activities and caroling during the holiday season. In addition, from November 25 through January 5, a dazzling lighting display, sponsored by Holiday Lights Festival, will illuminate the brick streets spanning from 10th to 13th Streets, and from Harney to Jackson Streets. The display will also be accented with LED snowflakes from the Omaha Downtown Improvement District, illuminated reindeer and garland.

"This Saturday, November 30, will be a great day to visit the Old Market for holiday shopping. It's Small Business Saturday, and the local store owners are planning holiday specials and events," continues Mayor Stothert. "Small Business Saturday has become part of the Thanksgiving weekend shopping tradition. I hope you will support our local businesses. They create jobs and boost the local economy."

A major event as part of Holidays in the Old Market is Small Business Saturday on November 30th. Start the season off by supporting locally-owned shops and restaurants in Omaha’s most historic district. Our brick-paved streets will be filled with carolers and the shops will feature special holiday finds for your Christmas list. Other activities on that Saturday will include a special Holiday on Twelfth Street which will include characters from Disney’s Frozen, a petting zoo, magician, free rides from Ollie the Trolley and more. Also pick up a free commemorative Old Market Ornament with your donation to Sienna Francis House from Noon to 5 pm at Spaghetti Works Dock. Even grab a picture with Santa too.
