OMAHA, Nebraska - There is a lot of damage at St. Barnabas Catholic Church at 40th and Davenport after it was hit by a 2007 Volvo around 8 a.m. Wednesday.
Omaha Police say the roadway jogs to the right at Davenport but the car continued straight through the intersection and hit a tree and then the church.
Omaha Police say the driver, identified as 65 year old Robert Groven of Hamburg, Iowa, appears to have suffered a medical episode that contributed to the crash. The jaws-of-life were used to free Groven from the wreckage and he was taken to a hospital with broken ribs and a broken pelvis. His injuries are not considered life threatening.
Father Jason Cantania tells NewsRadio 1110 KFAB damage to the church includes the entryway and the stairs that lead to the choir loft. An outside wall is slightly pushed in and there is damage to shrubs and a tree.Inside the church there is damage to the plaster.
Another vehicle was hit by the debris from the crash and a windshield was broken. That driver was not hurt.
