Omaha Firefighter Arrested In Child Abuse Investigation In Sarpy County

SARPY COUNTY, Nebraska - An Omaha firefighter has come up in a child abuse investigation in Sarpy County.

6 News reports that prosecutors say the incident took place in October. They say that 34 year old Stephen Luethge knowingly allowed a child to be placed in a situation that endangered his or her life, physical health or mental health and that the child had been cruelly confined or cruelly punished.

Court records show that 2 month old child had been removed from Luethge's home in Gretna. The child suffered a broken right arm and broken ribs. The arm fracture was bout two weeks old at the time. The child had been home from the hospital for about five weeks and had eating issues and failed to gain weight.

Prosecutors say the parents did not have an explanation for the injuries but they could not have resulted without abuse or neglect.

Luethge has been an Omaha firefighter since May of 2009.
