Unlicensed Midwife Heads To Trial In July

OMAHA, Nebraska - A woman who advertised as a midwife is charged with negligent child abuse resulting in the death of an infant in June of 2019.

6 News reports that Angela Hock will go to trial on those charges starting July 20th.

The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services stated that Hock does not hold a certified nurse-midwife license or other medical licenses.

Hock was hired for a home birth. Omaha Police report the pregnant woman went into labor at 9 p.m. June 14th. Hock arrived to help deliver the baby at 6 p.m. on June 15th. In a criminal complaint filed Monday, the baby was a breech birth and that a food had been delivered. The mother stated that Hock told her she had "trained in delivering breech babies" and Hock asked whether the mother wanted to continue the birth at home. The mother agreed to continue the home birth but Hock called 911.

The baby was delivered on the way to a hospital but was unresponsive. The child was not able to revived and was put on life support. A physician reported that the baby was deprived of oxygen and suffered swelling of the brain. Court documents state the infant could die as a result of those injuries.
