Lincoln Woman Charged For Her Part In Deadly Hit-And-Run

LINCOLN, Nebraska - A Lincoln woman is accused of tampering with evidence in a deadly hit-and-run that took the life of 41 year old Tina Mortensen on October 18th.

Lincoln Police arrested 50 year old Kimberly Cowell is accused of assisting 21 year old Casey Maxfield in hiding a vehicle after that crash on 10th and South Street. 6 News reports that Maxwell hit Mortensen and then left the scene.

Reports show that Cowell is Maxfield's mother. The probable cause affidavit says she helped Maxwell push the vehicle that Maxfield was driving into Salt Creek near 70th and Cornhusker. That vehicle was located a short time later.

Maxfield was arrested on October 19th. At that time, Cowell denied helping Maxfield get rid of the car. Investigators told her there was surveillance footage showing the two together and she then apologized for not telling the truth.

Cowell turned herself in on November 7th and is charged with tampering with evidence.
