DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nebraska - It is time to put away the canoes, tubes and kayaks. The Papio NRD today closed all the Elkhorn River access sites for the season.
It was a very tough season for those who enjoy the river for recreation. Flooding in March closed the camping area at Highway 275.
Several of the access sites reopened throughout the summer but then were closed again due to heavy rainfall making river conditions dangerous.
The access sites will remain closed through April 1st.
