LINCOLN, Nebraska - The Nebraska Supreme Court upheld a lower court's ruling regarding convicted killer Raymond Mata Jr. The Court stated that Mata was not entitled to an evidentiary hearing on his post-conviction appeal in the 1999 murder of 3 year old Adam Gomez in Scottsbluff.
6 News reports that Mata claimed that his constitutional rights were violated as he was shackled during the jury selection process. He also made several claims against the death penalty.
Authorities say that Mata killed the boy, dismembered his body and fed parts of him to a dog. They say he kept some of the boy's remains in a freezer as a way to intimidate Adam's mother.
