OMAHA, Nebraska - Omaha is preparing for the return of an Olympic trials event.
Josh Todd with the Omaha Sports Commission made the announcement today at Baxter Arena and says, "It is my honor to announce that Omaha has been selected the 2022 Olympic Men’s and Women’s Curling trials."
The event will be held again at Baxter Arena.
USA Curling held the trials at that venue in 2017. Todd says 22,000 fans attended the event making it the largest attended U.S. curling event in U.S. history. The trials also generated $2 million for the city of Omaha.
In 2017, the U.S. team of John Shuster, Tyler George, Matt Hamilton, John Landsteiner and Joe Polo won the Olympic gold metal at the games in South Korea.
