AMES, Iowa - The Iowa Department of Transportation is hoping to clear up some confusion about a stretch of road south of Missouri Valley that runs to I-80 near Minden, Iowa. That stretch of road is now called I-680 and will be renamed I-880.
The section of roadway also known as I-680 that runs from I-29 at Crescent, Iowa to the Mormon Bridge into Omaha will continue to be called I-680.
Iowa DOT officials say they made the decision to change the name of that roadway after the flooding and road closures.
Officials with Iowa DOT say the two segments of roadway called I-680 was confusing so they decided to make the changes for clarification purposes.
Online maps have already been updated and new signs will go up in a few weeks. It may take a bit longer for mapping systems like Google and Apple to make the changes.
