The Focus Is On Speed In Fatal Crash Investigation

Omaha Police say speed was a factor in a fiery, single vehicle crash late Friday night near 36th and Redick Avenues;

The driver, who was the lone occupant, died at the hospital after being rushed there by an Omaha Fire Department rescue squad.

He has been identified by police as 30-year old Jamel Wallace of Omaha.

Investigators say Wallace was driving a Chevrolet Equinox south on Martin Avenue approaching Redick, when he failed to negotiate a curve.

The SUV left the roadway, struck a retaining wall, then a tree, head on. Firefighters had to pull Wallace out of the wreckage.
