Investigation Continues Into West Omaha Apartment Fire

Investigators are trying to determine what caused an apartment fire in west Omaha Saturday afternoon that displaced 150 residents.

The two-alarm fire broke out around 5:30 p.m. at Pacific West Apartments, near 144th and Pacific.

“Right away they called for a second alarm fire just because of the history of our apartment fires that we’ve had in Omaha," says Battalion Chief Scott Fitzpatrick. "Being the top floor, being already up in the ceiling, we were worried about it possibly extending to other parts of the structure.”

Investigators say the fire was contained to the attic space and the apartment where it started. The Salvation Army and Red Cross were on scene to assist residents with other living arrangements.

Damage to the building is estimated at $200,000.
