SARPY COUNTY, Nebraska - Three of five people suspected of involvement in a cockfighting operation in Bellevue were in court today.
Jose Gerardo Soria waived his preliminary hearing and his bond was set at $10,000.
Bernabe Mendoza Chavez and Salvador Lopez had their bond set at $5,000. Their preliminary hearing is scheduled for October 22nd.
Jose Lopez and Veronica Herrera will have preliminary hearings on October 15th after receiving signature bonds.
WOWT 6 News reports that all five suspects are legal residents.
All five were arrested on September 20th after a total of 163 roosters, hens and chicks were found at 8516 S. 15th Street. Officials say there was evidence the poultry being involved in a cockfighting operation. The chickens are being cared for by the Nebraska Humane Society.
