Albion Man Arrested for Attempted Murder

An Albion man has been arrested after police say he fired a gun at another man Monday night. Albion Police were called to investigate a report of a shot being fired at a person around 10:00 p.m.

Police spoke to a man who told officers he was standing on the rear deck of his home when someone he knew drove by the property twice. As the suspect drove by a second time, police say he fired a single shot from a handgun at the resident and drove away.

The resident was not hurt. Officers were able to find the suspect’s vehicle at a residence in Albion. Police say 41 year old Charlie Melgoza left his house around 12:15 Tuesday morning. Officers then conducted a traffic stop and arrested Melgoza without incident.

Melgoza was booked into the Boone County Jail for attempted murder, use of a weapon to commit a felony and making terroristic threats. Bond was set at $500,000.
