Nine Year Old Boy Recovering After Colliding With City Bus

Omaha Police say a nine year old boy was seriously hurt when the electric scooter he was riding collided with a city bus just before 5:00 Tuesday afternoon.

Sergeant Neal Bonacci says that the bus was attempting to pass the boy near Florence Blvd and Pinkney. "He attempted to make a pass when the scooter moved toward the curb lane and ultimately, at some point, the child on the scooter turned to the side of the bus."

Police say Derrick Ashley was riding a Spin Scooter, which requires riders to be 18 years old. They are trying to determine who gave him access to it.

Ashley was taken to the hospital with a serious head injury, but he is expected to survive.
