York County, Nebr. - A rare mosquito known as the Aedes Aegypti that carries the Zika virus, chikungunya, dengue and yellow fever was found in York County. 6 News reports that Laura McDougall with Four Corners Health Department in York says that more than one of the mosquitoes were found. The insect is usually found in more tropical climates so this is a first for Nebraska.

McDougall says it is important to take precautions against mosquitoes. That includes getting rid of standing water around your property, using insect repellent and repair screens so mosquitoes stay outdoors. Those spending time outdoors should wear long sleeves, pants and socks as a precaution.
