Man Wanted For Iowa Murder Takes His Own Life In Western Nebraska

Keith County, Nebraska - The man suspected of killing Brittany Wilson in Bettendorf, Iowa last month at the Big 10 Mart convenience store apparently took his own life after a police chase in Nebraska. Police say 21 year old Manuel Rangel of Illinois shot himself Sunday on I-80 in western Nebraska.

Nebraska State Troopers received information about a dangerous person driving on I-80 near Ogallala. That vehicle crossed into Colorado but about an hour later, Rangel's vehicle returned to Nebraska on I-80. A trooper tried to stop the car but Rangel kept on going.

The State Patrol worked with OnStar to slow and bring the vehicle to a stop near Brule. As troopers approached the vehicle they heard a single gunshot. Law enforcement report that Rangel shot himself. Troopers provided medical care at the scene and Rangel was airlifted to a hospital in Scottsbluff where he later died.

The Keith County Attorney in Nebraska will review the case for a grand jury investigation.
