It took a lot of time and effort but Hormel Park in Fremont is again open to the public. The March flood left the park littered with tree debris but trails are now clear and people are again enjoying a holiday at the park. That includes kayakers that were ready to launch into the Platte River.
Fremont Parks and Recreation Department managed to clear the trails and they are again safe for foot traffic. Many people tell 6 News that the reopening is a sign of recovery for the community.
Work will continue on the park as there are many downed trees that need to be cleaned from the park.
