Meet the Omaha Police Department's newest member - Peace.
Peace is the newest detective K-9 for the department. She is specially trained to sniff out guns.
Office Dan Torres trained with Peace and tells 6 News, "She can detect approximately 19,000 different explosives, as well as be able to detect firearms that have been used and discarded, and spent shell casings and live ammunition." The two spent about 400 hours together training at the AFT National K-9 Academy in Virginia.
There were 10 dogs in the class and Omaha received one of them.
Peace is trained to locate spent shell casings. Police can then trace them to the gun that fired them. Peace is also trained to locate guns inside schools and malls.
