The Making of Apocalypse Now

Today marks the 40th anniversary of Apocalypse Now. The 1979 Vietnam War movie is widely regarded as the best film about that particular war, and one of the best war movies period. It's the 54th best movie of all-time according to IMDb users. A powerhouse cast, a brilliant director, and a problematic production.

Apocalypse Now is also widely regarded as one of the most difficult movie shoots ever. The movie almost didn't get made. Actors were fired mid-shoot, outlandish demands made by cast members, weather destroying equipment, and one of the film's stars suffered a heart attack.
