Omaha Police are looking for the person who shot a 33-year-old pregnant woman in her home near 48th Avenue and Browne Street early Sunday morning.
Officers were called to the scene at 1:20 a.m. They spoke with the victim and her 11-year-old son, who was in the house at the time. The boy told police that he heard someone enter the house and then saw the suspect walk into his mother’s room where she was asleep.
Police say the boy tried to intervene and then retreated as the intruder fired a handgun. Jateira Austin was hit by the gunshot. She was taken to the hospital for treatment of an injury that is not considered to be life-threatening.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Omaha Crime Stoppers at 402 444-STOP. Anyone providing tips leading to an arrest in a shooting is eligible for a $10,000 reward.
