Ground was broken on the Fisher House today. It will be located right next to the VA Nebraska-Western Iowa Health Care System in Omaha. It is the first for the state.
The 14,000 Sq. Ft. facility will be a free home away from home for families of veterans receiving treatment at the VA.
President of the Fisher House Foundation Dave Coker says, "This Fisher House will provide 16 suites. It will accommodate 16 families and I expect it will serve 500 families a year."
There are currently 84 Fisher Houses around the world and about 1,100 families are being served every night. Since 1990, Fisher Houses have helped 368,000 families in need.
Construction is expected to be complete in late 2020. They are already looking for volunteers and donations to help those in need.
