Update: Two Arrests Made In Last Summer's Fire At Popcorn Shop

Update: More information has been released regarding the Popcorn Shop fire in July of 2018 at 84th and Frederick.

Omaha Fire officials determined that the cause was intentional. Today, Police arrested two suspects, owner Sandra Richards and her boyfriend Shawn Clark. Both were booked for arson and insurance fraud.

6 News reports investigators and security footage from a nearby business shows someone approaching the shop and lighting the doors on fire with gasoline. Cellphone evidence also placed the owner at the scene of the fire. Richards stated she was in bed when the fire started.

The fire in the strip mall damaged several other businesses that were closed for months following the fire.

More than a year after fire heavily damaged an Omaha strip mall, two people have been arrested.

Investigators say the fire broke out at The Popcorn Shop near 84th and Frederick Street last July 23 and that it was intentionally set.

46-year-old Sandra Richards and 43-year-old Shawn Clark have been arrested and booked for two counts of felony arson and one count of burning to defraud an insurer.

An investigation revealed that the two suspects operated the business. Neighboring businesses also sustained damage from the fire and were closed for an extended amount of time.
