A Douglas County Sheriff's deputy is credited for saving the life of a man injured in a chainsaw accident.
The man was on his way to a hospital and spotted Deputy Jonathan Smolen for help. Smolen performed a life-saving procedure on the man by applying a tourniquet to the victim's thigh that was badly injured. The man was hurt while cutting down a tree.
Smolen tells 6 News it was the first time he had used his tourniquet. Smolen then called for an ambulance and the man was taken to a hospital. The victim remains hospitalized Friday night.
Douglas County deputies are trained to use tourniquets by practicing on themselves.
