More Time Given To Yale Park Owner To Fix Code Violations

The Omaha Property Maintenance Appeals Board today met with Yale Park Apartment complex owner Kay Anderson. They voted to give Anderson six more months to fix up 14 more units in the 100 unit complex.

Yale Park was closed by the city last September after hundreds of code violations were found. About 500 residents, all refugees, were relocated after being forced to move out. Since then, Anderson has brought 23 units up to code and they are currently rented.

Anderson tells 6 News that the city has kept their goals reasonable enough that he has been able to meet them. Anderson's goal is to have all 100 units ready to be rented and up to code in eight months. He says there is also a waiting list for residents ready to move in and all of them are refugees.

Anderson still faces criminal charges - 99 misdemeanors in connection to the code violations found last year. His trial is set for later this month.
