Netflix is very eager to win Oscars. They feel it gives them credibility in the world of film. Their latest pursuit in this endeavor is 'The Irishman', a biopic centering around Jimmy Hoffa and Frank Sheeran. Based on the 2004 tell-all "I Heard You Paint Houses", The Irishman stars Academy Award winners Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, and Joe Pesci. The latter making his first major film appearance in 13 years.
This will undoubtedly be the movie to beat come award season. There is no movie coming out with the pedigree of The Irishman. Will it live up to the hype? Time will tell.
The Irishman will be in theaters very briefly before debuting on Netflix in November.
